Labiaplasty also known as labioplasty , labia minora reduction , and labial reduction is a plastic surgery procedure for altering the labia minora inner labia and the labia majora outer labia , the folds of skin surrounding the human vulva. There are two main categories of women seeking cosmetic genital surgery: those with congenital conditions such as intersex , and those with no underlying condition who experience physical discomfort or wish to alter the appearance of their genitals because they believe they do not fall within a normal range. The size, colour, and shape of labia vary significantly, and may change as a result of childbirth, aging, and other events. In a male-to-female sexual reassignment vaginoplasty for the creation of a neovagina , labiaplasty creates labia where once there were none. A study reported that 32 percent of women who underwent the procedure did so to correct a functional impairment; 31 percent to correct a functional impairment and for aesthetic reasons; and 37 percent for aesthetic reasons alone. Images of vulvae are absent from the popular media and advertising : 19 and do not appear in some anatomy textbooks, while community opposition to sex education limits the access that young women have to information about natural variation in labias.

Labiaplasty Before and After | Plastic Surgery
The main purposes of labial or vaginal reconstructive surgery labiaplasty and vaginoplasty are to restore the normal function or appearance of the vagina or the normal size or appearance of the labia. Women can experience problems after childbirth , resulting in birth trauma to the vagina or labia, or the normal ageing process could have left them feeling embarrassed with how their vagina looks and feels. Concerns about the look and feel of your vagina are common, particularly following the ageing process or after childbirth, where the vagina has experienced some trauma. Vaginal rejuvenation helps to rebuild the pelvic floor where the vaginal tissues and muscles have been stretched. It is also used to reconstruct the perineal area at the vaginal entrance, helping to strengthen these muscles and reduce laxity. Stretching of the vagina may occur naturally as a result of the ageing process, or following childbirth, where the vagina fails to return to its pre-pregnancy appearance. Since the vagina is used for sexual intercourse, any scarring or distortion which may occur through childbirth or ageing can also result in pain or discomfort during sex.
Variations in the natural female form used to be accepted, even celebrated. In recent years, though, it seems that these variations are not seen as assets, but as problems to be taken care of by plastic surgeons. Breast augmentation, liposuction and eyelid surgery were the most popular surgical cosmetic procedures, but there has recently been heightened demand for new surgical trends. Once the domain of sex workers, nude entertainers, swimsuit models, and a relatively small number of women with medical abnormalities, vaginal plastic surgery and procedures have gone mainstream.
